Anquan Boldin Named One of Two 49ers MVPs
49ers.com
It may come as a surprise, but Anquan Boldin is not a goal-setter, at least when it comes to his individual numbers.
No, Boldin didn’t set out to finish his first 49ers season with 85 catches comprising 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns.
Still, the production isn’t a surprise either.
“About what I expected,” Boldin said, “to be effective.”

Alex Smith declared out for Monday night
The Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been declared out for Monday night's game against Chicago with a concussion.
Team medical director Dr. Dan Garza evaluated Smith, who was hurt eight days ago against St. Louis.
The 49ers will start second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who replaced Smith in the 24-24 tie with the Rams last week.
Chicago also is without starting quarterback Jay Cutler because of a concussion. Jason Campbell will start.
Smith practiced on a limited basis during the week, but could not pass tests under the NFL's concussion treatment protocol to allow him back on the field against Chicago.
Smith has made 28 consecutive starts and led the 49ers to a 6-2-1 record this season. He was injured during the first half against the Rams and left the game midway through the second quarter.
Last season, his first under coach Jim Harbaugh, Smith led the 49ers to a 13-3 record and within an overtime loss to the Giants of a spot in the Super Bowl.

Vernon's two touchdown catches help Niners get past Lions
Sep. 16, 2012
SAN FRANCISCO -- Two weeks in, the San Francisco 49ers are playing like one of the NFL's best -- and you can shake on that.
San Francisco stymied 2011 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, then record-setting Matthew Stafford in Week 2.
These Niners are doing it on offense, too.
Vernon Davis caught touchdown passes of 21 and 23 yards from Alex Smith, and San Francisco beat the Detroit Lions 27-19 on Sunday night in a September showdown of NFC powers that hardly lived up to its hype.
"Two playoff teams, back to back, and we came back out here tonight and did it again," running back Frank Gore said. "We came out here and started the game fast, and then we finished it."
This stingy, opportunistic defense denied Stafford another milestone and again is making its mark as one of the league's elite facing the top offenses and most prolific passers.
Smith completed 20 of 31 throws for 226 yards and extended his franchise-record streak of passes without an interception to 216. He led the reigning NFC West champion Niners (2-0) to their ninth consecutive victory in the series since the Lions' last victory on Sept. 25, 1995. Smith took a hard hand to the helmet from John Wendling late and bloodied his nose, then found Davis again.

San Francisco 49ers' Perrish Cox welcomes a fresh start

San Francisco 49ers' Perrish Cox welcomes a fresh start
SAN FRANCISCO -- Playing for the 49ers this exhibition season has been extra meaningful for defensive back Perrish Cox, and his team-leading two interceptions are only a small part of the story.
The promising cornerback was an NFL outcast last season, forced to watch from home while awaiting trial on sexual-assault charges in Colorado.
"Nobody could help me. I felt I was in my own dark room by myself," the former Denver Bronco said this week. "But I escaped it."
Acquitted by a jury in March, Cox quickly signed with the 49ers. As Thursday night's exhibition finale against the visiting San Diego Chargers approaches, Cox is poised to make the roster -- and make up for lost time.

Perrish Cox Returns to Denver in Style
Perrish Cox Returns to Denver in Style:
Jacob Most49ers.com
Perrish Cox made a triumphant return to Denver by making a key second-quarter interception in the San Francisco 49ers’ 29-24 preseason win over the Broncos on Sunday.
With the Broncos backed up inside their own 20-yard-line on a second-and-13, Cox stepped in front of Eric Decker to pick off Caleb Hanie’s first pass of the second quarter. The 49ers cornerback brought the pass back 21 yards to the Broncos’ 19-yard line.

“I was just reading a three-step to five-step drop,” Cox said of his interception. “I think Decker ran a skinny post, and we were in cover-three coverage. I was reading the whole triangle from the receiver to the quarterback. He threw it and Decker wasn’t looking for the ball so I broke on it perfectly. It flew right into my hands.”
Cox looked comfortable all day in the mile high air having spent his rookie campaign with the Broncos in 2010 before sitting out last season.
